Herbert was born in Palmetto, Louisiana on May 21, 1933. He came to Port Arthur, Texas in 1952. Herbert married the love of his life, Rosella Sinegal, on September 18, 1954. Herbert worked for the City of Port Arthur and retired as a maintenance supervisor after 32 years of service. Herbert enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his workshop.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents Frank Sr. and Mary Thomas; six sisters, Josephine Stevenson, Geraldine Deal, Ella Mae Peters, Mildred Antoine, Rose Williams and Verlie Rose; two brothers Joseph Freuge and Frank Thomas, Jr.; one great-grandchild Tamia Nicolette Thomas.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Rosella Thomas; children David Thomas and Carolyn Thomas; four grandchildren Antoinette Motley-Carpenter, Armand Hill (Ami), Angela Vincent (Kary), Tami Pickney (Omar); eight great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Herbert also has a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dedicated friends.

Funeral service will be 9 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church with viewing from 8 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
