An official with Port Arthur Police Department and Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham have both confirmed the shooting death of a woman that happened after a theft at a gas station early Saturday morning.

The name of the deceased has not been released. Justice of the Peace Pct. 8 Tom Gillam III said the victim is a female, age 36, from Beaumont. When he arrived at the scene the woman’s body was already on a gurney and he noticed bullet holes in the car. He has ordered an autopsy.

Police were first called to the Community Bank parking lot, 2901 Turtle Creek Drive, regarding the shooting around 5:20 a.m. July 2 and found the woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

That’s when they found out the shooting took place at a different location — the Express Mart in the 2900 block of Jimmy Johnson Boulevard. The suspect, a security guard, and witnesses were located at the scene.

Officials said the shooting happened after an alleged theft at the store.

“The case is currently under investigation,” PAPD Maj. Raymond Clark said. “The district attorney’s office was called to assist in the investigation.”

Wortham confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that a suspect is not in custody at this time.

This marks the third murder in the city this year.

On Feb. 21, former Port Arthur Police Officer Chris Jeffries, 47, was found dead from gunshot wounds in his home in the 2200 block of Glenwood. His girlfriend, Ethel Marie Eulian, also known as Ethel Marie Prior, was charged with murder.

On May 10, Patrick Louis Guidry, 35, was found with his throat slashed in a stairwell at Port Arthur Park Apartments, 1348 Jefferson Drive.

Paris Bennette Jr. was charged with the murder.
