A new restaurant known for its generous portions and affordable prices is coming to Port Arthur and is expected to open its doors by mid-March.

Sam’s Southern Eatery, at its Memorial Boulevard location, will serve a variety of mainly seafood dishes, fried and grilled, and be large enough to seat about 60 people.

“Our slogan is ‘home of the jumbo shrimp,’” Abraham Khalil, 24, of Beaumont said.

Khalil and his sister Zira Amunet, 28, of Beaumont are co-owners of the restaurant.

The sibling’s plan to draw on their backgrounds in accounting and property management, coupled with a love of food, for what will be their first business venture together.

“This is a great area,” Khalil said.

The Louisiana-based eatery first started in Shreveport in 2008, and has since expanded to franchises in nine states including Texas, Georgia and Arkansas.

Menu offerings include catfish, shrimp, oysters, po-boys, burgers, Philly Cheese Steaks, livers and gizzards, just to name a few of the entrees that will accompany side orders such as green beans, red beans and rice, fried green tomatoes and fried pickles.

Khalil and Amunet will own and operate the restaurant, which is expected to employ an additional five to 10 part-time workers.

Sam’s Southern Eatery in Beaumont has been open in the Mars Shopping Center for about two years and has been a popular addition to the area, Amunet said.

“It brought traffic to the plaza and attracted other businesses,” Amunet said. “We have a lot of potential here, and a great opportunity to provide good food to the people of Port Arthur.”

Sam’s Southern Eatery is known for its affordable prices and extremely generous portions, Khalil said.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and is closed on Sundays.
