To make the victory more dramatic, Feucht had to do so in front of his opponent’s fans. Feucht recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Rice’s Jake Hansen.

“I’m happy for Michael,” said head coach Scott Shankles. “At one point, Feucht saved two match points in an earlier match against another Rice player. He was able to carry that momentum into today’s final. His victory came against a player who was considered a blue-chip recruit coming out of high school. It was a great tournament for Michael.”

OLASTUEN SETS LU RECORD IN DEFEAT

SAN MARCOS – Mari Olastuen set a Lamar women’s soccer single-season record with her sixth assist of the year, but it wasn’t enough for the Cardinals in a 4-2 loss to host Texas State in a non-conference game Sunday afternoon.

Olastuen’s record-setting day was overshadowed by Texas State’s Lauren Prater, who scored three goals for her first career hat trick.

Lamar is now 5-5 on the season, with Texas State improving to 6-2.

ASTROS PULL WITHIN 1 OF AL WEST LEAD

HOUSTON (AP) — Evan Gattis and Carlos Correa hit two-run homers, and the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-3 on Monday night in a matchup of American League wild-card contenders.

Dallas Keuchel (18-8) pitched 7 2/3 solid innings to remain undefeated at home this season. More importantly, the All-Star left-hander helped Houston keep momentum by winning its third straight.

The Angels made it interesting in the ninth. David Freese scored on a two-out single by David Murphy. Murphy scored on a pinch-hit single by Collin Cowgill off Oliver Perez to get Los Angeles within striking distance.

But Houston closer Luke Gregerson retired Erick Aybar to end the game for his 28th save.
