BEAUMONT – Road games at Oklahoma State, Utah and Missouri along with four home doubleheaders highlight the 2015-16 Lamar women’s basketball schedule that was announced today.

The 29-game regular-season schedule that features 14 home games at the Montagne Center gets under way at 11 a.m. Nov. 13 when the Cardinals travel to Oklahoma State. LU is at Utah on Nov. 17 before opening the home portion of the slate by hosting Louisiana College at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 when LU fans will be able to get their first look at the recruiting class that was ranked 84th in the nation and tops in the Southland Conference.

LU will play five non-conference home games this season. In addition to the opener against Louisiana College, the Cardinals play host to Schreiner on Nov. 30, Canisius on Dec. 14, Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec. 17 and Howard Payne on Dec. 30.

In addition to the season-opening road sojourn to Oklahoma State and Utah, the Cardinals also have non-conference away contests at Northern Arizona on Nov. 22, Loyola Chicago on Nov. 28, Prairie View A&M on Dec. 5 and Missouri on Dec. 20.

“I think we have a very good non-conference schedule,” said LU coach Robin Harmony, who enters her third year with the Cardinals. “We are going to play some very good teams. Those games will get us ready for our Southland Conference schedule.”

LU, which went 17-13 overall last season while finishing second in the conference with a 14-4 record, opens Southland play with a Jan.2 contest at Nicholls. The Cardinals host New Orleans at 5 p.m. Jan. 4 to commence the home portion of the Southland schedule. The game against New Orleans is the first hoops doubleheader of the season at the Montagne Center, with the LU men facing New Orleans in the nightcap.

LU’s three other doubleheaders are all Saturday afternoon affairs that commence with the women’s game at 2 p.m. Those twin bills are Jan. 16 vs. Northwestern State, Jan. 23 vs. Houston Baptist and Feb. 6 against Incarnate Word.

LU closes out its home schedule by hosting McNeese State at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 before wrapping up the regular season at Incarnate Word on Feb. 27 and Sam Houston State on March 2. The Cardinals are at McNeese State at 1 p.m. Feb. 20 in the opening game of a doubleheader.

The Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled for March 10-13 at the Leonard E. Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

“We’re excited about this season,” Harmony said. “We’ve got a good group of returning players along with a great recruiting class.”
