Port Arthur Linking Military Sisters celebrated their anniversary by joining this week in the food distribution at Empowerment Church, 3600 Memorial Blvd. in Port Arthur.

Dr. Janice Milo, pastor at Empowerment Church and president of PALMS, welcomed her sisters on the 1-year anniversary of their chapter.

The ladies are also celebrating Women Veterans Day, signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2017.

Another event celebrated was the 76th anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act, put into law by President Harry S. Truman to recognize (mainly) African American women who served and worked, but were not initially given credit.

Empowerment Church opens its food pantry on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month.
