Winifred Laird Wallentine, 101, of Bellville, Texas, passed away May 30, 2024, at Colonial Living and Rehab in Sealy, Texas, under the care of Acara Hospice.

Winifred was born March 25, 1923, in Polk County, Texas, the daughter of Robert Ray and Winnie McLaurin Laird. She grew up attending school in Cleveland, Texas, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1940.

She lived and worked in Houston after graduating from Southwestern Business School. Winifred was united in marriage to her first husband, Dr. Abner M. Peacock in 1944, at Paris Island, South Carolina.

She and “Peacock” lived and worked in Port Arthur, Texas, where they raised their family, before his death in 1966. Winifred later married Erv Wallentine in 1972.

Erv preceded her in death in 1996.

Winifred moved to Bellville in 2000 to be closer to her children.

Methodist by faith, she enjoyed needlepoint, playing bridge, and watching the Astros in her spare time. A glass of sherry before dinner every evening was standard.

Winifred is survived by her children: daughter, Susan Rae Peacock Wieprecht and her husband Barry and son: Alan Laird Peacock, all of Bellville; grandchildren: Brent Laird Wieprecht and his wife Laura, of Bellville, Stephen McLaurin Wieprecht and his wife, Camille, of Houston, Sara Rae Peacock of Houston and Emily Ann Peacock and her husband Patrick Renner of Houston; great-grandchildren: Anna Rose Wieprecht and Leah Laird Wieprecht, Jack Michael Wieprecht and Henry Thomas Wieprecht and Indiana Peacock; stepchildren: Ann Wallentine of Austin, and Craig Wallentine of Durant, Oklahoma, and their families.

Winifred was preceded in death by her parents:  Robert Ray and Winnie Laird; husbands: Dr. Abner Peacock and Erv Wallentine; an infant brother: Randall Beamon Laird, and brother, Truman R. Laird; daughter-in-law: Karen Stubbs Peacock; and an infant grandchild, Michael Guinn Wieprecht.

Graveside services will take place in Port Arthur, Texas, at a later date.
