UPDATE — Authorities located the body of Chavez Padalla of Beaumont on Friday evening.

BEAUMONT — Late in the evening on Thursday, Texas Game Wardens in Jefferson County responded to reports of a drowning on the Neches River in Beaumont.

Authorities said five adults had their boat anchored and were swimming.

“One male drifted too far out and did not resurface,” a release from game wardens and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated.

“Wardens, assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Beaumont Fire Department, searched using sonar into the early hours of (Friday).”

Authorities said the search was suspended and resumed shortly after sunrise Friday.
