Once Upon A Child’s followers were out in force Thursday, some even arriving several hours before the store officially opened.

Logan Green, who owns the business with wife Taylor, said they had 158 customers come in before they lost count during the grand opening.

Green said the store, located at 8607 9th Avenue in Port Arthur, has everything from body suits to strollers, cribs, bassinets, baby gear, accessories and anything related to babies.

The process for a customer to see is simple, he said.

Place the items in a tote, bin or bag. An employee enters the information into a system that generates a price that’s 70 percent retail. A customer can expect 20 to 40 percent in cash, check or store credit.

If the store chooses not to purchase the items, they are given back to the customer.

Green said they knew they needed inventory and started buying items in late February to prepare to open the store.

And it’s not just clothing and bedding at the store. Green said they also have toys such as big craft kitchens with play food and a sink, dinosaurs, Nerf guns, Barbie dolls and baby dolls.

The owners are offering a number of deals and giveaways. On Thursday the first 25 customers received a $25 coupon for the store. There was also popcorn and a local vendor giveaway.

Friday there will be face painting and a drawing for a Stanley cup or cooler.

On Saturday there will be snow cones and a visit from 104.5 radio station and on Sunday there will be double points and an appearance by a princess.

This is the fourth resale store for the Greens.

Once Upon A Child, described as a leading children’s clothing and accessories resale concept, is known for its affordable, gently used children’s clothes, shoes, toys, equipment and more.

Officials with the store said this gives parents a place that puts cash back into their pockets and sells gently used brand name clothing and accessories for less.

Once Upon A Child is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

The franchise is part of Winmark-the Resale Company.
