PORT NECHES — Being crowned Miss Port Neches means much more than a title for Sophia Lewis.

“It’s a position to be inspirational and really make a difference. It’s an opportunity to take action, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing,” the 18-year-old Port Neches-Groves High School senior said.

Lewis realizes as queen she will undoubtedly be seen as a role model for younger girls. For that, she feels honored. She looks forward to becoming involved with youth and charity organizations.

PNG fans have likely seen Lewis through the years as an Indianette and four-year member of the varsity track team.

She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Physics Club, History Club, Student Council and TRIBE (Trusting Real Indians By Encouragement).

She is a member of First Baptist Church Groves.

In her downtime Lewis loves to paint and draw — anything art-related, she said.

She also likes to spend time with friends and family.

Looking toward the future, Lewis plans to attend Lamar University and major in criminal justice and minor in psychology. She hopes to join the FBI.

Her mother, Susan Lewis, described her as graceful, saying it likely comes from Lewis dancing since the age of 3.

Lewis is a homebody but spends most of her time studying and drawing, painting or crafting, and is an artist at heart, her mother said.

“Sophia is resilient and strong. She’s soft spoken but driven. She brings me comfort, joy, peace and chaos, but I wouldn’t change anything about her. I’m blessed to have her as my daughter,” Susan Lewis said.
