Final show of Beaumont Community Players is The Wizard of OZ!

After 99 years of entertaining and educating audiences is Southeast Texas, the final production of Beaumont Community Players will be The Wizard of Oz.

“When we open our 100th season in September, it will be as Southeast Texas Stages,” says Executive Director John Manfredi.

Resource Director Julia Rodriguez said The Wizard of Oz was last performed in 1999, the last show of the century.

“It is like we are entering Oz ourselves,” she said. “There is unknown territory and new adventures ahead, and OZ is a perfect representation of the joy, wonder, fear, friendship, and magic of this next chapter.”

The Wizard of Oz opens May 1o.

“I’m enjoying watching the actors discover how their characters navigate our interpretation of the strange world of Oz,” director Lindsay Lee Downssaid . “They learn [in the course of the show] that they don’t need the validation from a ‘wizard’ with an Instagram filter.”

The show runs for three weekends in May at The Betty Greenberg Center for Performing Arts, 4155 Laurel Street in Beaumont.
