This isn’t the only election in the near future. There is also the Republic Primary run-off between Dade Phelan and David Covey.

Early voting in the primary run-off is from May 20 to May 24 for the May 28 election.

Who can vote in Republic Primary run-off

Aaron Kelley, Jefferson County elections manager, said voters must reside in District 21, and any person who voted in the Republic Primary is eligible to vote in the run-off.

Any Democrat who did not vote in the Primary can switch affiliation and vote in the runoff. The party switch will not be permanent and only impacts the Primary runoff, Kelley said.

In November the ballot is open and all candidates will be on the ballot, he added.
