PORT NECHES — A Louisiana man reportedly led police on a chase weaving in and out of residential streets in Port Neches until he was taken into custody Sunday.

Port Neches Police Department officers attempted to stop a driver for a traffic violation in the area of Avenue B and Dallas Street at approximately 8 p.m. Sunday, but the driver fled.

Port Neches Police Chief Sheri Griffith said the driver, later identified as James Allen Bruno, 43, of Carencro, Louisiana, was non-compliant with officers from the beginning and at one point decided to flee.

Bruno led officers up and down streets in downtown Port Neches and went as far as Magnolia Avenue.

Police ended up taking the driver into custody in the 700 block of Dallas Street.

Bruno is set to be arraigned Monday, according to information from the county jail.

Griffith said individuals fleeing police are not considering the welfare of others when they are in that situation, adding officers do everything they can to keep the situation safe.

This situation ended safely and with the suspect in custody, she said.
