A 21-year-old Nederland man died, authorities said, following a Wednesday ATV crash in Newton County.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers investigated the fatal crash on Texas 87, which occurred at the intersection of County Road 3110.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 3:34 a.m., a Kawasaki ATV was traveling north, while a Nissan Versa was traveling south.

It is reported the ATV was traveling in the oncoming lane and was struck by the Nissan, according to information from DPS.

The operator of the ATV was pronounced deceased on scene by a justice of the peace. He is identified as 21-year-old Kaleb Harvey of Nederland.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as 51-year-old James Pennington of Newton, was not injured.
