In 1935, Alice moved to Port Arthur and made it her home where she met and married the love of her life, Vernon Louis Simon, and was embraced by his family.

To this union were born four children who she adored, Vernon Louis Simon, Jr., Patricia Ann Downing, Hattie Marie Griggie (Willie, Jr.), and Alvin Craig Simon, Sr. She also adored her eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Although work caused Vernon to be away from home often, Alice bore the total responsibility of raising her children. Alice was a brilliant mother.

She was their protector, disciplinarian, confidant, playmate, and most of all she attended to their every need. She taught them values that shaped their lives and they learned the importance of loving and caring for one another and for others.

After Vernon’s death, she married Willie Ridgle, a kind and devoted man, and they spent time traveling and tending to their second home in Moss Hill.  Alice was a devout Catholic and was instrumental in converting both her husbands, and made sure that her children and husbands followed the Catholic doctrine and teachings. Alice was also a long-time member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary.

She found pleasure in tending to her flower and vegetable gardens as well as decorating and cooking for the holidays.
