Groves leaders highlight National Vietnam War Veterans Day

GROVES — National Vietnam War Veterans Day is March 29, and the honoring of those Veterans took center stage this week in Groves.

Tim Winberg, chaplain’s assistant of VFW Post 4820, gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance Monday at the Groves City Council meeting.

VFW Post 4820 post Quartermaster Ken Loftin gave a short speech about National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

In attendance were 12 Vietnam Veterans, including VFW Post 4820 post members Wayne Newsom, Dennis Gordy, James Rose, Eugene Hamilton and Mario Avila.

Special guests in attendance from the Vietnam Veterans of America, Beaumont Post 292 included Don Smart, Dennis Blessing, Thomas Hall, Ray Hardy, John Brian and Wayne Taylor.

At the culmination of the briefing, Mayor Chris Borne presented a Vietnam pin to each of the Veterans and thanked them for their service.
