Area woman killed following Highway 73 crash near Englin Road

WINNIE — Authorities have identified the area woman killed Tuesday following a Highway 73 crash.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the victim is 71-year-old Paula Long of Winnie.

Troopers are investigating the fatal crash on state Highway 73 at the intersection of Englin Road.

The preliminary investigation indicates at approximately 4:49 p.m. Tuesday, a Ram 1500 was traveling west on S.H. 73, while a Toyota Camry was traveling north on Englin Road.

It is reported Long, the driver of the Toyota, failed to yield to the Ram and was struck.

The driver of the Ram, identified as 48-year-old Crispin Esparza of Houston, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Long was pronounced deceased on scene by a justice of the peace.
