Port Arthur Police Department investigators announced Thursday that the unintended victim of this week’s shooting at Cedar Ridge Apartments is a 70-year-old local woman.

Authorities say she sustained a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

“Investigation revealed the victim was sleeping in her apartment when a projectile entered her window and struck her,” a PAPD release stated. “Video surveillance revealed a male subject wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with white pants discharging a firearm in the direction of the victim’s apartment. Investigators are confident the injured victim was not the intended target.”

The Port Arthur Police Department responded to the apartments at 7617 9th Avenue at approximately 11:48 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of shots fired.

Police are asking anyone in the area to check security cameras during the timeframe from 11 p.m. through 11:45 p.m. Tuesday for information on the shooter.

Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect is asked to call police at 409-983-8600 or 409-983-8646.

Police Chief Tim Duriso said the victim was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont and is listed in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported, though several vehicles were struck by gunfire.

Duriso said police do not believe the shooting at Cedar Ridge is related to the fatal shooting of a woman at Heatherbrook Apartments in the 8000 block of Heatherbrook Trail, which is less than a mile away.

That victim, Angela Davidson, 40, of Port Arthur was outside of an apartment unit when she was shot Dec. 11.
