UPDATE — Nederland Police report suspected gunman arrested Wednesday

NEDERLAND — A Nederland man who fired at bond agents trying to serve a warrant is in custody after an approximate five-hour manhunt Wednesday, police said.

The man, identified as Jason Paul Young, 45, was found hiding in an apartment he was able to enter at The Avenue Apartments on Nederland Avenue.

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said the man was apprehended just after 7 p.m. and was still armed at the time.

No injuries were reported.

Porter said officers received assistance from a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer and the Port Neches Police Department.

Young is facing charges associated with warrants, and additional charges will be filed with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

NEDERLAND — Nederland Police Department officers and investigators are working a shooting that took place at approximately 2:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities put out an alert to the community, telling residents to be on the lookout for a 45-year-old white male wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans.

He was last seen on foot in the 2900 block of Nederland Avenue.

Police said he is 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

According to police, the gunman is armed with a pistol and fired rounds in a complex parking lot.

“This subject was involved in a shooting incident within the hour and is considered armed,” authorities said. “Do not approach this subject. Call 911 or the Nederland Police Department with any information.”

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said bond agents were trying to arrest a man on warrants at The Avenue Apartments and the man fired at the agents. The agents returned fire, Porter said, adding no one was injured.
