BRIDGE CITY — A 23-year-old local man was arrested this week, one day after Mobil Express Mart #1 was robbed at gunpoint, authorities said.
Bridge City Police Department officers responded to the express mart, 1745 Texas Avenue, at 1:51 a.m. Wednesday following reports that an assailant displayed a handgun and demanded money.
Arriving officers arrived obtained a description of the gunman and were told he fled on foot, Assistant Chief R.D. Bergeron said.
Authorities did not immediately release what was stolen or if there were any injuries.
Officers determined the area where the suspect fled, according to Bergeron, who said investigative leads pointed detectives to an apartment at 1571 Texas Avenue in Bridge City on Thursday, where they located the suspect inside a bedroom.
Evidence from the robbery was also located inside the apartment, police said.
A suspect was identified as 23-year-old Wilmer Noe Cuevas Castro.
Castro was taken into custody for outstanding traffic warrants. Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant on Castro for aggravated robbery.
The arrest warrant was signed by Justice of the Peace Pct. No. 1 Hershall Stagner Jr.
Castro is being held in Orange County Jail.
