BRIDGE CITY — A disturbance between a man and a woman led to an assault and shooting Tuesday night in Bridge City, authorities said.
Bridge City officers responded at 8:51 p.m. to the 1300 block of Dogwood Street in reference to a female outside screaming, a Bridge City Police Department release said.
Officers located a 48-year-old woman and learned she had been assaulted at a home in the 100 block of Fernwood Street.
Police went to the home to speak with a man about the alleged assault and found a 60-year-old man lying on the kitchen floor with a single gunshot wound to his chest.
The man reportedly told officers he intentionally shot himself.
Both the man and woman were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are currently in stable condition.
Police are not saying if the incident is considered domestic in nature or the connection between the man and the woman.
When contacted by a reporter Wednesday morning, police did not answer the question if arrests had been made.
Detectives stressed the case remains under investigation.
