Thurman L. Allred, 94 of Groves Texas passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, in the comfort of his home of 55 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, with Masonic rites by Groves Masonic Lodge #1315 AF-AM where he was a 64-year member and a 62-year member of Scottish Rite 32⁰ Bodies of Galveston, TX.

Services will be conducted by the Rev Phil Sigman, and internment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park where he will be honored with military rites and laid to rest beside his loving wife.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

Thurman was born May 11, 1929, in Auburn Mississippi, and was the oldest son of Ike and Versia Cowart Allred.

He lived most of his life in Groves, moving here January 1, 1937, from Auburn. A graduate of Port Neches High School in the class of 1946, he earned a basketball scholarship to Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College in Wesson Mississippi.

After one year of basketball and baseball, he returned to Groves and married his sweetheart from First Baptist Church, Clarese Winona Smith.

They were married 66 beautiful years. A faithful servant of Jesus Christ, he was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church, and an adult Sunday school teacher.

He retired from Texaco, Inc. after 36 years as a sheet metal worker. He is an Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving one overseas tour near Casablanca, French Morocco and another tour near Munich, Germany for the Intelligence Department.

He and his wife loved to travel and visited 48 states and all the Canadian provinces on adventures in their motor home.

Preceding him in death was his beautiful wife Clarese Allred on February 9, 2015, his parents Ike and Versia Allred, brother Elwood Allred, his in-laws, Robert and Ida Smith and very special friend James Green.

He is survived by his special family Penny & Gary Egbert of Cypress, TX, Brian, Jennifer, Joshua and Isaac Egbert of Spring, TX, Jennifer, Dennis, Anna & Sloane McCray of Houston, TX, and Holly, Jonathan, Jenny Clarese, Aiden & Viola Sandstrum of Tomball, TX.

His sister-in-law Joan Allred (Elwood), daughters Jan Terral and Suzan LaFleur all of Baton Rouge, LA. Ronnie and Erleen Allred of Rayborn County and their son Travis and Tracy Allred of Woodville, TX and daughter Krista and Ronnie Smith of Richmond, TX and special friend Sue Green, wife to the late James Green of Groves, TX.
