DPS: Pedestrian killed after being struck along Texas 87 just outside Port Arthur

The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the investigation into Wednesday’s auto-pedestrian crash fatality that took place just outside Port Arthur.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates the collision occurred on Texas 87, approximately one mile east of Port Arthur.
Authorities said a man was struck and killed at approximately 5:20 a.m. by a 2008 Infinity car that was traveling west.
Sergeant David Hendry’s initial release indicated the pedestrian was struck in the roadway.
Police identified the driver of the Infinity as 24-year-old Orrin Landers from Orange. Landers was not injured as a result of the crash.
Jefferson County Pct. 7 Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett said the man was walking westbound on Texas 73 .4 miles north of mile marker 774, which is near the Taft Avenue exit.
The deceased is identified as Jeremy Scott Welch, 40. He is believed to be from Groves.
This crash remains under investigation.
