Memorial summer football camp student-athlete tests positive for COVID-19
Numerous students and employees of Memorial High School were sent home Monday to self-isolate for a 14-day period after one of the school’s football players tested positive for COVID-19.
PAISD Superintendent Mark L. Porterie announced the news in a letter to “Port Arthur ISD families,” saying the school district was notified Monday morning that a student-athlete in a summer football training camp tested positive for the coronavirus.
According to Porterie, district officials do not believe anyone who had secondary contact — defined as contact to someone who had direct contact — with the student is at risk at this time.
“We encourage our community to take COVID-19 seriously and abide by all guidelines laid out by the Centers for Disease Control, Governor Abbott and our local agencies,” Porterie said.
