Authorities have not filed kidnapping charges or released the name of the suspect arrested Wednesday when Port Arthur Police reported a 9- and 10-year-old were forcefully kidnapped from their legal guardian.
The abduction of the two children by their non-custodial parent remains under investigation.
The biological mother of the two children was arrested following the alleged kidnapping on Wednesday and is being held on a Jefferson County warrant.
Police have not said what the warrant relates to.
“This is a very fluid investigation, and we are not releasing the name at this time,” Det. Mike Hebert said of the unnamed female. “The investigators are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.”
PAPD officers responded at approximately 12:40 a.m. Wednesday to the 2300 block of 17th Street where two children were taken from their legal guardians, police said in a press release.
An intense search was initiated by police at approximately 10:13 a.m. PAPD received information that the children were seen in the 7600 block of Ninth Avenue. The children were found safe and unharmed and returned to their legal guardians.
Additional criminal charges against the suspect are pending as investigators continue to gather evidence in the incident.
The alleged kidnapping comes days after police said a Port Arthur father broke into a Lewis Drive home, shot his child’s mother and took his 7-month-old son, causing for an Amber Alert to be issued.
The mother suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
Nathan Roberts Jr., 26, was arrested in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue just before 8 p.m. Monday and charged with the kidnapping. Bond was set at $100,000.
