Drive-thru COVID-19 testing will be available Friday in Port Arthur.
The testing is free, officials said.
The State of Texas is providing the testing from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Bob Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Drive.
Tests are going to be administered on an appointment-only basis.
Call 512-883-2400 to register, or register online at txcovidtest.org.
The free testing was announced one day after a 55- to 60-year-old male became the first Port Arthur citizen in 10 days confirmed to have coronavirus.
It was one of two cases the Port Arthur Health Department announced Wednesday (May 27). The other was a 30- to 35-year-old female from Groves.
Both are quarantined and cooperating with local health officials, according to the PAHD. Port Arthur now has 61 positive cases of COVID-19, while Groves has 12.
The Health Department reminds all citizens to remain vigilant about maintaining social distance as more businesses are opening and using a face covering if social distancing cannot be used.
“This is still [a] very serious situation, and we are not yet in the position of relaxing our efforts of using those non-pharmaceutical interventions,” the department writes in a news release.
The Port Arthur Health Department serves citizens from Port Arthur, Groves, Nederland and Port Neches.
