Members of the Israel Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Port Arthur hosted a free grocery drive-thru Friday on the church’s campus.
Israel Chapel is the first and oldest black church in Port Arthur.
Kroger sponsored the drive-thru through the Texas Conference of the AME Church’s lay organization, and Israel Chapel gave away 47 bags of groceries.
Vashti Murphy McKenzie is bishop of the AME Church’s 10th District, which covers Texas.
