Riceland Healthcare has reopened its Surgery Center on 11th Street in Beaumont.
Day surgeries and procedures which have been postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis were resumed at the facility as of April 23, 2020, with the help of the physicians who have practiced there for the last several years.
Dr. Ben Beckert, Medical Director of the Surgery Center, has performed surgeries there for hundreds of patients.
“As the Medical Director of Riceland Surgery Center I am excited to announce that under the direction of Governor Abbott and the Texas Medical Board, we are able to resume surgical cases,” Beckert said. “Obviously, in this time of crisis due to the COVID-19, certain steps are required to ensure the safety of our patients and staff, but it is also satisfying to resume care to patients in our community to better their lives.”
Riceland Healthcare has taken all possible precautions to protect the health and safety of patients and healthcare professionals who are working in facilities. Appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is provided and patients will be properly screened before being allowed into the facility.
Riceland Healthcare has conducted over 100 COVID-19 tests which have shown positive results over 6 percent of the time. The positive results were given to the tested individuals and to the authorities so that appropriate treatment could be provided.
Riceland continues to provide tests to the general public throughout Southeast Texas at the Riceland Medical Center in Winnie and at physician clinics in Winnie, Woodville, Beaumont, and Vidor. While many of the staff have been exposed to COVID-19, none have contracted the disease.
“The leaders of Riceland Healthcare feel their success is because of the dedicated nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals who serve the health needs of our patients,” said Steve Deatrick, administrator of the Riceland Medical Center.
“Our dedicated professionals continue to put their lives and health on the line for our Souheast Texas community and we will never be able to adequately express our appreciation to those brave men and women.”
Riceland Healthcare has offered health related services to well over 1,000 patients in the last month alone in their homes, clinics and nursing homes thanks to the use of Tele-health technology.
That technology has been used to help Riceland reach an increasing number of patients in need of behavioral and other health services. COVID-19 is causing an even greater than normal increase in the demand for behavioral health services.
Riceland Healthcare will continue to work with other healthcare professionals and the authorities throughout Southeast Texas during the days and months to come in adjusting to and address the needs our citizens face because of this pandemic.
