NEDERLAND — Work on the Nederland Avenue Domino’s is nearing completion and, if all goes as planned, will be open next week.

Randy Brown, franchisee at several locations including the one at 1404 Nederland Ave., said the new Domino’s would be in line with the concept of a pizza theater.

“It will be wide open, so customers can see what we do,” Brown said, adding there are already other Domino’s with the new concept in the area. “There will be a few tables where customers can actually sit at inside if they want.”

The “eat inside” concept is on hold for a while as the nation deals with COVID-19 restrictions.

In addition there will be additional parking and a pick-up window when the location opens.

Nederland City Manager Chris Duque said there is a very tight fit in the area where Domino’s is locating the new building, and the city worked with the restaurant to find a way to make it work.

“It should be a big benefit to the city,” Duque said. “They are a very good business in the community and are always helping out and donating when they can.”

Precautions

Domino’s initiated contactless pick-up where the order can be placed on the counter, the employee backs away and the customer walks away with his or her order.

Contactless delivery is also an option where the order will be left on the porch or such after alerting the customer the order is there.

Sanitizing at the store is being done on a regular basis. Other Domino’s owned by Brown have closed their dining areas during the pandemic.

The drive-thrus also adhere to the sanitizing, he said.

The pizza business, with delivery and pick-up, was already in the loop when emergency orders came down to shut dining rooms. So an already compliant business has picked up considerably with sales from a previous period and now, Brown said, adding Domino’s is looking to hire more employees.
