Nederland, Groves cite “social distancing” for closing City Hall to public

Nederland City Hall closed to the public at noon Tuesday.

The City of Groves made a similar announcement Tuesday.

Nederland city council meetings will still be open to the public.

City officials said services would continue to be provided at City Hall through different means.

“This decision does not justify or rationalize the hoarding of food, bottled water, cleaning supplies or toiletries,” a city statement reads.

The drive-through window at City Hall between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Check or money order at the night drop located near the drive- through.

Birth and death certificates are available Texas.gov.

The drive- through window at City Hall can also be used to request and receive these documents.

the Human Resources Department at 409-723-1500, option #8.

“The City of Nederland is committed to providing uninterrupted services while working to adhere to the SOCIAL DISTANCING recommendations from the Federal and State governments and medical experts,” a city statement reads. “We will resume normal operations as soon as possible. We ask for your cooperation and patience through this process. If you have any questions, please call the City Manager’s Office at 409-723-1503.”

The Nederland Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Bureau has suspended all Chamber events indefinitely.

“We understand the hardships placed on our members during this unusual period of business interruption,” the Chamber said.

“We will pass on any information regarding assistance as it comes to us. In the meantime, if we can help you in any way, please reach out to us. Above all, please stay safe and remember that this is a temporary situation. We WILL weather this storm as we always do, together.”

In addition to the Groves library and Activity Building being closed to the public, Groves City Hall and Public Works lobbies were closed to the public at noon Tuesday.

For utilities services and garbage bags, go through the drive-through window located at City Hall off of 39th Street. Those with additional questions regarding utilities can call 409-960-5777 or 409-960-5780.

Those needing a birth or death certificate can order online at Texas.gov.
For Public Information Requests or other items needed from the City Manager’s office, call 409-960-5773.

Information for permits, solid waste, water or sewer is at 409-960-5770 or 960-5706.
“Please know the City is doing our part to prevent the spread of Coronavirus and continue to serve our citizens with as little interruption and inconvenience as possible,” a Groves statement read.
