NEDERLAND — A Nederland man has been reported missing to police after not showing up for work on Friday but foul play is not suspected, police said.

Nederland Police Chief Gary Porter said a parent of John Eagleson, 60, filed the missing persons report on Monday.

“There is no evidence of foul play,” Porter said. “He has not contacted anyone and has not shown up for work. Oftentimes people do this and want a little time to their self or to take care of personal business or it could be something else.”

Porter said this is out of the ordinary for Eagleson, which is the worrisome part.

Eagleson does not have any medical problems that Porter is aware of that may be related to his disappearance.

Daren Granger, general manager at Philpott Toyota in Nederland, said the last time his team heard from Eagleson was in a test at 8:37 a.m. Friday morning, where he said he had “some personal business to tend to” and that he’d get back to them.

“We started calling Friday night, his mom started calling and the phone went straight to voicemail. Saturday morning we tried to get hold of him again and his mom did to,” Granger said.

Eagleson’s mother asked Granger for help finding her son and they went to Eagleson’s apartment — he had just moved there two weeks ago — and his car was not there. The landlord was contacted who opened the door and nothing was out of place inside.

Eagleson has a daughter in the Austin area and she has not been able to get hold of him either, he said.

Granger made the missing persons report with permission from Eagleson’s mother.

“This is very uncharacteristic for him,” he said. “He is very much a man of integrity and honor. He was sick in February and was off for four days and texted and called each day to tell us how he was doing.”

Granger said Eagleson and his mother communicated, “so much it’s unbelievable”

“Usually if he would leave and be gone he’d tell her,” he added. “He is a tremendous guy of integrity and trust and we’re really, really worried about our friend and teammate.”

Eagleson is described as a white male, 6-foot 2-inches tall, blue eyes and grayish hair.
