A Port Arthur man who police say broke into a pregnant woman’s apartment and assaulted her while she was on Instagram Live was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury this week.
According to court documents, Kary James Dennis, 17, had a verbal argument with a woman who is pregnant with his child at her Port Neches apartment on Dec. 31, then showed up at her door unannounced.
The victim told police she thought it was her cousin, so she opened the door.
She told police he pushed his way inside and grabbed her throat with both hands and reportedly continued to choke her. During this time she was on Instagram Live with her followers and one of them contacted the victim’s mother, who went to the apartment.
The victim told police he continued to assault her in the kitchen area of the apartment and at one point had her stomach pinned to the stove, causing pain to the stomach area. When her mother arrived, police said Dennis fled the scene. That’s when police were called.
Dennis was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit another felony (assault family/household member impede breath/circulation).
Dennis has since bonded out of jail.
