PNG girls earn No. 2 seed following 63-37 win over Dayton

MONT BELVIEU — Port Neches-Groves secured the No. 2 seed out of District 21-5A in girls basketball Friday with a 63-37 win over Dayton in a seeding tiebreaker at Barbers Hill High School.

The Indians (19-9) utilized four double-digit scorers in their victory. Mollee Priddy had 19 points, Avery Girouard totaled 12, Amonti Edwards scored 11 and Maylin Stampley finished with 10. Edwards pulled down 14 rebounds.

Both teams finished 9-3 in 21-5A and split their season series. Dayton won 61-58 on Jan. 3 and PNG returned the favor with a 52-25 feat on Jan. 28.

Dayton fell to 16-14 with the loss.

PNG will take on Galveston Ball at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the 5A playoffs at East Chambers High School in Winnie. Ball eliminated PNG last year.
