It took Port Neches-Groves six tries since joining the same district as Memorial in the 2016-17 school year to beat the Lady Titans, but the Indians finally pulled it out Jan. 10 at home.

The Indians achieved another first Tuesday night — sweeping the Lady Titans in the same season.

Maylin Stampley led a 3-point barrage in the first half and totaled 15 points in leading PNG to a 56-32 win in Port Arthur.

The Indians (17-8, 8-2 in 21-5A) matched their district win total from last year, when they earned the third seed and their first UIL playoff berth in program history. Tuesday’s win assured the second-place Indians they’ll be back in the postseason, as they are 3½ games ahead of fourth-place Memorial (4-17, 4-5) with two games remaining.

Stampley hit four of PNG’s seven 3-pointers in the first half. Mollee Priddy had the other three and finished with 12 points.

Jackie Gibbs led the Lady Titans with 13 points. Jordan Duncan added 10 points in the loss.

PNG will host district-leading Barbers Hill on Friday and visit Vidor next Tuesday to close the regular season. Memorial has a bye date Friday and will visit Dayton next Tuesday.
