A Beaumont man is being held on a $500,000 bond for the October shooting death of DeShandric Clayton.

Clayton, 23, of Port Arthur was shot while in a breezeway at Avery Trace Apartments, 4260 FM 365, and died at a local hospital from a single gunshot wound to the chest on Oct. 18.

On Tuesday, investigators with the Port Arthur Police Department along with U.S. Marshals and Jefferson County warrant officers tracked Kylan Deion Bazile, 22, of Beaumont to a Beaumont apartment complex where he was taken into custody without incident, Det. Mike Hebert said.

Hebert could not release information on a possible motive for the shooting or divulge whether the two men knew each other.

Police also did not comment on whether Bazile is a known gang member.

The Avery Trace Apartment complex has been the scene of violent crimes in the past; some of which include the 2018 fatal shooting of Joseph Boudreaux, 25, and the 2017 shooting death of Javonte Jack, 20.

This is not Bazile’s first brush with the legal system. In August, he, along with three women, were arrested at Prince Hall Apartments in the 1000 block of West 13th Street. The arrest came on the heels of a search warrant by Port Arthur Police Department’s Narcotics and Guns Unit, which recovered two stolen firearms, crack, ecstasy pills and a “large amount of marijuana,” police said at that time.

One of the guns recovered, an AK 47, had been stolen during a Port Arthur home burglary. The other firearm, a 9mm pistol, is confirmed stolen from the city of Orange during an auto burglary.

Bazile was arrested for theft of firearm and was indicted on the charge in November.

Bazile was a person of interest — and later no billed by a Jefferson County grand jury in the June 13, 2017, shooting death of James Arceneaux Jr., 17.

Arceneaux suffered a gunshot wound to the head while in the 1000 block of Liberty.

A motive for the shooting was not divulged but police at that time of the investigation had received information of possible gang activity. This was not confirmed.

Police also believe there was evidence the shooting was possibly in self-defense as Bazile was described as a friend of the victim.
