NAVASOTA — A Port Arthur man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Grimes County.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Jimmy Morgan, communications officer from Bryan, said the wreck occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. Saturday about seven miles south of Navasota at the intersection of Texas Highway 6 and FM 2.
Warren Samuel, 24, of Port Arthur was driving a Ford Fusion east on FM 2 and failed to yield right of way at Texas 6, reportedly pulling out in front of a Mercedes Benz driven by Omar Kashu, 24, of Richardson, authorities said.
Kashu’s vehicle struck Samuel’s vehicle on the driver’s side.
Samuel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Grimes County Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Mark Laughlin.
Kashu was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Navasota, where he was listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Morgan said there are a few crashes each year at the intersection, which precedes a major highway.
According to the crash report, Samuel’s occupation is listed as corrections officer, though it does not list where he is employed.
