After serving the Port Arthur community for more than 89 years, CHRISTUS St. Mary hospital built not only a long, rich history in the community, but a legacy that will continue as the mission of CHRISTUS moves forward.

That impact has proved to be profound to our community – evidenced by the continued interest in the future of the former CHRISTUS St. Mary hospital campus.

 The St. Mary Hospital building:

Over the coming weeks and in preparation for next steps, a fence will be erected, surrounding the CHRISTUS St. Mary hospital campus. CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System expects to finalize demolition vendor selection and begin the early stages of demolition of the main hospital by the end of January.

The demolition process is expected to take up to nine months to complete after a partner has been selected and bids have been approved.

Our health care services:

As for the services, which currently remain at CHRISTUS St. Mary hospital, the CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Maternity and Women’s Center and the CHRISTUS Center for Health Management Clinic will remain in their current location inside the Gates Bldg., adjacent to the St. Mary hospital site, and are available to continue serving patients without disruption.

Another service formerly provided at St. Mary has found a new home at the CHRISTUS St. Mary Outpatient Center Mid County on Highway 365 and 9th Avenue.

Outpatient chemotherapy and infusion services have been relocated and are proudly serving patient’s needs in our convenient, newly designed facility in Mid County.

On-going honors:

CHRISTUS Southeast Texas Health System is proud to announce a partnership with the Port Arthur Museum of the Gulf Coast to develop an exhibit to honor the legacy of St. Mary hospital.

Plans for such are still underway and more details will be made available after the first of the year.

Additionally, as shared during the St. Mary closing announcement, we are furthering the legacy of St. Mary by renaming our outpatient center in Mid County. Please be on the lookout for additional information about events to bless and dedicate the newly renamed CHRISTUS St. Mary Outpatient Center Mid County early in the new year.
