NEDERLAND — Christmas, with plenty of sweet treats and bright lights, will be celebrated Tuesday evening in Nederland.

For approximately the 15th consecutive year, Nederland Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Lighted Christmas Parade is hitting local streets, starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at 21st Street and Nederland Avenue and heading for 12th Street, where the parade takes a left, passes City Hall and approaches Boston Avenue, where another left is taken, before coming to an end at Central Middle School at the corner of Boston and 17th Street.

Chamber President/CEO Diana LaBorde said the 2019 event is the largest yet, evidenced by a record 84 entries accounting for 137 parade spots.

Per tradition, Santa and Mrs. Claus will close the parade on the last vehicle, joining the rest of the riders in throwing candy and treats to local children.

Parade participants were asked to donate canned goods at the chamber office, 1515 Boston Avenue in Nederland, and additional donations can be dropped off Tuesday night on the Chamber porch.
