Bernadine Jermel Newman

Bernadine Jermel Newman, known as “BJ 79” a native of Port Arthur, TX.

Born on January 21, 1940 to Earnest “Rock” and Bernice Rodney- Newman.

On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, BJ was peacefully called into the presence of the Lord.

She was the eldest of five children.

Bernadine was a member of the First Sixth Street Baptist Church.

She attended Lincoln High School and she was a member of the class of 1959.

Bernadine was employed at The Port Arthur Country Club as a salad chef.

In the late 1980’s she resigned to take care of her ailing mother. She also was a member of the Emerald Ladies Social and Civil Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Jasmine Newman.

Bernadine is survived by four brothers, Earnest Newman, Jr (Alma), Gary B. Newman (Zene), Ronnie Newman and Ronald Newman (Catherine), a niece and nephew that she reared, Rolanda J. Newman-Brew and Christopher Newman, a host of other nieces and nephews, and numerous relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 am at The First Sixth Street Baptist Church, located at 548 Abraham Lincoln Avenue, Port Arthur, Texas.

Final Viewing will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
