The victim of a Tuesday shooting in Port Arthur may have known his shooter, police believe.

“We’re still trying to follow up on leads to find out what the motive was,” Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso said. “We believe it was one victim and the investigators are saying he may have known the shooter.”

The victim’s identity is not being released to aid the investigation, authorities said.

Port Arthur police began investigating the case after receiving a shots fired report at 10:06 p.m. Tuesday, when they responded to the 1400 block of 8th Street.

Officers quickly discovered a “man down” in the roadway, according to Sgt. Timothy Dinger.

The victim suffered from a gunshot wound to the torso and was taken to a local hospital by EMS. Duriso said police do not believe the victim’s injuries are life-threatening.

Police are not yet releasing any potential suspect information.

“Once I get with detectives, we will probably be able to release more,” Duriso said. “They want to try and pursue it first before they put anything else out there.”
