The violence in Port Arthur continues, as police announced a third person has been killed in a span of eight days.
The victims have been struck down in three separate incidents, the latest taking place in the overnight hours from Saturday into Sunday.
Several shots were fired sometime shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 20), prompting Port Arthur Police Department officers to respond to the 1100 block of Vicksburg Avenue, Field Operations Division Sgt. Timothy Dinger said.
Arriving officers found “several people” shot, noting one of the victims died as a result of injuries.
The other victims were taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.
“The identities of the victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin,” a release from Dinger said. “This incident is under investigation by the Port Arthur Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.”
Sunday’s violent shooting follows gun violence from Friday afternoon (Oct. 18) that also resulted in a killing.
Port Arthur police are investigating that fatal shooting which took place at Avery Trace Apartments at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Authorities have only said a black male who sustained a gunshot wound was taken to a local hospital and later died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Those two shootings follow the Oct. 12 stabbing death of 24-year-old Port Arthur man Gerald Taylor, who police say was killed by his girlfriend, Amesty Haley Smith, 23.
Smith is being held on a $750,000 bond and is under a mental health hold, according to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility records.
