PAPD: 1 shot, 1 arrested following Monday afternoon shooting

A daylight altercation turned violent Monday in Port Arthur, leaving one man shot in the abdomen and another arrested, authorities said.
Port Arthur Police Department officers responded to Tiger Mart, 8149 9th Avenue, at 1:37 p.m. Monday in reference to a gunshot victim.
Officers arrived and found the victim in the parking lot.
“Officers then entered the store and located a suspect in the shooting,” a release said. “This suspect was then taken into custody for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.”
Police said the shooting victim was taken to an area hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
Authorities identified the suspect as Demonte Thomas, 22, who was taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility for booking.
PAPD’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the shooting.
