John Veillon of Port Arthur is the latest to score a hole in one at Babe Zaharias. Veillon sank his ace Monday, using a 9-iron from 125 yards on the seventh hole. The shot was witnessed by Ricky Abshire. …
Back issues have forced Chris Stroud to skip this week’s opening event on the 2019-20 PGA Tour schedule in West Virginia. Stroud, who had planned to compete in the first two touraments, isn’t sure when he will be able to play.
Fellow PNG ex Andrew Landry is in the field for a tournament known as the Military Tribute. So is Lamar University ex Shawn Stefani. …
Braden Bailey, who has two top fives in two starts on the All Pro Tour, is back this week for the Victoria Open being played at Victoria Country Club.
The event runs Wednesday through Saturday and carries a first place purse of $20,000. …
Entries are being taken for the 24th annual Joe Williamson Memorial tourney Saturday, Sept. 21 at Zaharias. Entry fee is $50 per player for a two-person scramble that will flight teams by the low handicap. Food and beverages will be served on the course.
Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships at Nederland and Port Neches-Groves. Entry forms are available at the Zaharias pro shop. Anyone with questions should contact the golf shop at 722-8286 or Wendell Meaux at 790-8873.

The Saturday Super Senior 2-ball at Zaharias saw the team of Adam Davis, Charlie Leard, Flood and Cole Lee win the front with minus-3. The back was taken in minus-7 by the foursome of Bim Morrow, Rick Pritchett, John Jessen and Tommy Duhon. …
Friday’s Senior 2-ball saw resulted in a sweep by the threesome of Bob West, Gene Jones and Baumer. They were minus-4 on the front and minus-5 on the back. …
The Wednesday Zaharias DogFight, played in an all-points count format, saw the team of Mike Brown, Brian Mirabella, Mike Rogers and Jerry Watson finish first with 26 points. There was a three-way tie for second at 23 points.
Closest to the pin winners were Kenny Robbins (No. 2), Ronnie LaSalle (No. 7), Robert Stansbury (No. 12) and James Trahan (No. 15). …
