Goose Creek Memorial was ranked 14th in Class 5A, meaning Nederland had scheduled another tough opponent on its non-district slate.

No problem for the Bulldogs.

A third-set tiebreaker helped Nederland pull off a big upset on the volleyball court Tuesday. Kaylee Adams’ 22 digs and Kamren Savarino’s 36 assists (with two aces) led the Bulldogs to a 25-13, 25-21, 27-25 sweep.

Hannah Hickey added 14 kills, two aces and four blocks for the Bulldogs (17-12), who have won three in a row. Katie Perez finished off 11 kills, two aces and 13 digs, and Karley McGill threw in eight kills and four blocks.

Nederland will begin District 21-5A play Friday at home against Port Arthur Memorial.

HOUSTON 3, LAMAR 1

In Beaumont, Abigale Nash earned her sixth double-double (14 kills and 14 digs), but Houston proved too much in a 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16 victory at McDonald Gym.

The visiting Cougars (5-4) hit .224 for the match after posting a .469 mark through one set. Lamar (4-3) was held to a .119 percentage.

Annika Slovak made 38 assists and Erin Pequeno had 23 digs for the Cardinals. Port Neches-Groves graduate Kaitlyn Gil totaled 10 digs for Lamar.
