Police: Port Arthur man, 81, found dead; relative charged with murder
An 81-year-old Port Arthur man is dead, and a relative is behind bars, police said this morning.
Port Arthur Police Department officers on a welfare check responded to the 5500 block of Tremont Street this morning, discovering the deceased man.
Police said the victim showed signs of blunt force trauma to the upper portion of his body.
A relative of the victim was present at the home when authorities arrived and taken to the Port Arthur Police Department for questioning.
The relative, identified as 53-year-old Kelli Diedre Sartin, was booked with murder after questioning. She has been taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Justice of the Peace Brad Burnett requested an autopsy, and authorities are working to determine a date, as well as a time of death for the killing.
Port Arthur Police are holding a press conference this afternoon to provide additional details.
