PORT NECHES — Police in Port Neches said, as of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made and no citations issued in an accidental shooting that injured a teenager Monday afternoon.

Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine said the victim was a 16-year-old boy and the other two juveniles were 15-year-old boys.

Police also said the gun in question is a pistol, and authorities are tracking down its owner.

Not one but two accidental discharges of the weapon — including one where a juvenile was grazed by a bullet — happened in a Port Neches home on Monday.

Lemoine said three juveniles, two of whom were handling a gun, were in a room in a home in the 2200 block of Fourth Street around 4:20 p.m. when the gun accidentally discharged and grazed one of the teens in the head.

An adult was in the home at the time and after hearing the shot, went to check on the situation, and grabbed the weapon.

“The dad tried to make the gun safe and another round was fired,” Lemoine said.

The gun is not the adult’s gun.

A 911 call was made from the house but Lemoine did not know who made the call.

The juvenile was not seriously injured.

The incident was still under investigation on Tuesday.
