A Port Arthur man seen licking a tub of Blue Bell ice cream in a video at the Twin City Walmart likely did so for the attention — and he had a receipt.
The Port Arthur News received the video taken from the unnamed man’s Facebook page. Under the video was “Happy national soft ice cream day lmao #viral.”
Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso said they learned about it when someone reached out to one of the officers.
The officer was sent to the store and had confirmation of the incident. The young man and his parent met with the officer at Walmart on Twin City Highway, where they brought the receipt, which matched the time of the incident.
No charges were filed and Duriso said they are waiting to see if the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office will charge the man.
Dursio said the charge could be tampering with a consumer product.
Duriso said he’s not really sure why the man did this but suspects he was trying to get “likes” on Facebook.
Earlier this summer a female juvenile in Lufkin went viral for video showing her licking Blue Bell ice cream and putting the tub back in the freezer at a store. That case was turned over to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Not long after, a Louisiana man licked a tub of ice cream and posted it to social media though he had a receipt. He was arrested.
