Billy Foret of Groves scored his fifth hole in one last Friday at Babe Zaharias. Foret holed an 8 iron from 114 yards on the 15th hole. Witnesses were Jim Huebel, Rod Conerly and Craig Fontenot. …
Joe Gongora of Port Arthur tied his best ever round of 67 Monday at Babe Zaharias. Five Gongora birdies on the back nine helped his team finish minus-8 and win that portion of the Monday Senior 50 Plus game. Rounding out the Gongora team were Rufus Reyes, Tony Trevino and Dan Flood.
On the front nine, the team of Benny Sharpe, Ron LaSalle, Lee Bertrand and Dwayne Benoit placed first with minus-6.
The Super Saturday 2-ball at Zaharias saw the team of Cricket Owen, Cap Hollier, John Jessen and Benoit win with minus-4. On the back, the foursome of Gongora, Reyes, Butch Cross and a ghost fourth player prevailed with minus-3.
Closest to the pin winners were LaSalle (No. 2), Ed Holley (No. 7), Gongora (No. 12) and Benoit (No. 15).
Winning team in the Friday Senior 2 ball at Zaharias was made up of Bob West, Larry Reece, Jessen and Larry Foster. They finished minus-5. On the back, minus-6 won for the foursome of Russ Gloede, Dwayne Morvant, Harrell Guidry and Roger Baumer. For the day, Gloede had nine birdies and shot 64.
Wednesday’s Zaharias DogFight was played in an all-points-count format. Winning team with 28 points was Gloede, Charles Leard, Robert Stansbury and Frank LeBlanc. Second with 23 points was the foursome of Kenny Robbins, Gerald Huebel, Jessen and Brian Guidry. Third at 21 points was the team of West, Rusty Hicks, Dillard Darbonne and Jeff Greenway.
Closest to the pin winners were Earl Richard (No. 2), Stansbury (No. 7), Larry Johnson (No. 12) and Bim Morrow (No. 15).
