PGA TOUR: Andrew Landry, Shawn Stefani sit on bubble of Cup playoffs

Published 7:00 pm Friday, August 2, 2019

Scores of 68 and 66, respectively, in the second of the Wyndham Classic on Friday left Andrew Landry and Shawn Stefani hanging on the bubble in their bid to finish in the top 125 and qualify for next week’s first round of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Chris Stroud, who has already earned a spot in the playoffs, departed the Wyndham early after driver woes led to a two-over-par 72 and a missed cut with a 36-hole total of 139. Stroud managed to hit only seven fairways. He crept within one shot of the minus-4 cut but three consecutive bogeys on the back nine did him in.

Byeong Hun An owns the halfway lead at 127 on rounds of 62-65.

Landry started fast with three birdies on his first five holes, but three bogeys kept him from going low again. The PNG ex, after shooting 65 Thursday, is at 133 and tied for 27th. The FedEx projection still has him on the outside looking in at 128.

Lamar grad Stefani had only one bogey against his five birdies and is projected to move from 134 to 123. He needs to finish in the top 125 to renew his PGA Tour card for 2020. Stefani’s 36-hole total of 132 had him tied for 19th.

Landry’s day started with a birdie from 12 feet on the first hole. He added another from 8-2 on the third hole, slipped back with a three-putt bogey on 4, then picked up another shot with a two-putt birdie from 31-4 on the par 5, fifth.

It was up and down for Landry the rest of the day. He took a bogey at 6, birdied from 5-3 on 8, lost ground with a bogey at 14, then put his final red number on the board with another two-putt birdie at the par 5, 15th.
