BASEBALL: Indians’ Carson Roccaforte earns All-State mention

Port Neches-Groves junior Carson Roccaforte received some good news while in Alabama with the Mid-County Babe Ruth team.

Roccaforte was named honorable mention All-State outfielder in Class 5A by the Texas Sports Writers Association. Roccaforte was the only Jefferson County player on the All-State list.

In 37 games, Roccaforte hit. 358 with two home runs, four triples, nine doubles and 24 singles. He drove in 21 runs and scored 31 of his own.

Roccaforte delivered two or more hits in 13 games this season, including three-hit performances against Memorial (April 12) and Dayton (March 19). He led the Indians to the 5A Region III quarterfinal round against Nederland.

As a freshman, Roccaforte hit a series-clinching, two-run double against Tomball in the 5A Region III semifinal round. PNG went on to win its first state championship that season.

Colleyville Heritage shortstop Bobby Witt, the No. 2 overall pick in June by the Kansas City Royals, was named 5A player of the year after batting .482 with 15 home runs and 55 RBI.
